ABOUT THREDBO

Thredbo is located just below the snowline (1370m above sea level) in the Kosciuszko National Park in southern New South Wales, about 6 hours drive from Sydney and 3 hours drive from Canberra.

Thredbo is a world class ski resort and summer alpine destination. The Crackenback chairlift rises 595 metres from the valley floor over some dramatic scenery, and operates all year round. At the top, you are rewarded with spectacular views of the valleys and the ranges of the Snowy Mountains and the Victorian Alps in the distance.

In the winter ski season between June and early October, Thredbo really comes into its own. The ski slopes above Thredbo are a mecca for skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers. They feature some of the longest top to bottom ski runs in Australia, serviced by 7 chairlifts and 4 T bars. There are a wide variety of groomed and ungroomed runs, which offer something for everyone, from green beginner slopes through blue intermediate runs to the spectacular black diamond runs (including the challenging Funnelweb run). There's plenty of apres ski action in Thredbo's many bars and restaurants, as well as many top class boutiques to browse through during your time away from the slopes.

For the rest of the year, the Thredbo area is an alpine paradise for such activities as bushwalking, mountain biking, rock climbing and fly fishing. Fascinating rock formations as well as diverse flora and fauna make Thredbo a top destination for nature lovers and adventurers of all levels. A highlight of any visit is the walk along clearly marked trails to the top of Mount Kosciuszko, the highest peak in Australia. This is a pleasant 12 km round trip which usually takes around 4-6 hours and is an awesome thing to do at sunrise during the summer months. There are lots of other activities available in Thredbo, including a 9 hole golf course, a magnificent Aquatic Centre with pools and waterslide, tennis courts, and a luge course.

Thredbo is becoming renown for its summer festivals, and is becoming as busy in the off season as it is in the ski season. These festivals  include:  Blues festival, jazz festival, Fly fishing expo, Cannonball MTB Festival, Snowy Ride, Easter, Xmas and NYE. Notifications of the festivals appear regularity both on the Thredbo and Hahnenkamm Chalet Face Book pages.
